Why I love this craft

There’s just something about turning everyday items into something magical and this snowman does exactly that. I love how this craft feels high-end, like something you’d see in a boutique, but it’s actually made from a few Dollar Tree pizza pans and some paint.

It’s also super customizable. You can switch up the tile colors, add a little top hat, or personalize the scarf to match your holiday decor.

Crafting with Dollar Tree Pizza Pans

If you’re new to crafting with Dollar Tree pizza pans, let me tell you these things are gold! They’re sturdy, lightweight, and offer the perfect surface for everything from wall hangings to magnetic boards. I’ve used them in countless projects over the years, and they always deliver.

In this craft, the pizza pan becomes the snowman’s body, giving you a wide base that’s easy to paint and decorate. Pair it with a pie pan and some faux tin tile, and you’ve got yourself a unique layered look that’s just as functional as it is festive.

Materials

  • 1 Dollar Tree pizza pan
  • 1 Dollar Tree pie pan
  • 2 Dollar Tree faux tin (peel-and-stick) tiles (blue/white or silver)
  • 1 wood block (for base support)
  • 1 jumbo paint stir stick (from Home Depot or similar)
  • White chalk paint (I used Rust-Oleum Linen White)
  • Black chalk paint
  • Orange & coral acrylic paint (for the carrot nose)
  • Small wooden sign or frame (Dollar Tree)
  • Gray felt (for mittens)
  • Plaid fabric scraps (for scarf)
  • Black and white vinyl (for Cricut lettering) or a printed template for hand-lettering
  • Transfer tape (if using Cricut)
  • Foam mounting squares or heavy-duty double-sided tape
  • Carbon transfer paper (optional, for hand lettering)

Tools

  • Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Fine detail paint brush
  • Pouncer paint brush
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • E6000 craft adhesive
  • Cricut machine (optional)
  • Printer (for mitten template or lettering if not using Cricut)

Instructions

  1. Watch video. Follow the tutorial for a step by step walkthrough for making your own pizza pan tin tile snowman craft.
  2. Cut the faux tin tiles. Remove the backing from the faux tin tiles. Use the labels from the pizza and pie pans as your templates—trace around them directly on the back of the tile with a Sharpie, then cut them out with scissors.

  3. Attach the tin tiles to the pans. Apply a thin line of E6000 around the edges and a couple dabs in the center of each pan. Add a tiny bit of hot glue for instant hold (don’t go overboard—it can melt the plastic!). Press the tile circles onto the back of the pizza and pie pans, smoothing them down firmly.

  4. Assemble snowman. Use E6000 and hot glue to attach a wood block to a jumbo paint stir stick—this will support the snowman. Hot glue the paint stick to the back of both pans, aligning them vertically so the pie pan becomes the head and the pizza pan becomes the body. Add a book under the bottom pan to help keep everything level while drying.

  5. Paint it white. Using a pouncer brush, cover both pans with white chalk paint. A single thick coat is usually enough. Let some of the blue or silver show through for a distressed, vintage enamelware look.

  6. Add the face. Use a fine detail paint brush and black chalk paint to add oval-shaped coal eyes and a smile. It helps to paint from different angles to smooth over the texture of the faux tin tile.

  7. Paint the carrot nose. Mix a coral pink and pumpkin orange paint to get that perfect muted farmhouse orange. Paint a small series of ovals tapering off like a carrot down the center of the snowman’s face.
  8. Make the sign. Flip a small Dollar Tree sign over and paint the backing with black chalk paint. If you have a Cricut, cut and apply a vinyl “Let It Snow” design using transfer tape. If not, you can trace a printed design using carbon paper and hand-paint it with white chalk paint.

  9. Craft the mittens. Search online for a basic mitten outline, print it, and cut it out along with two layers of gray felt (folded). Stick the template to the felt using foam mounting squares, then cut carefully around it. Make the arms long enough to wrap around the back of the pizza pan.

  10. Attach mittens and sign. Hot glue the sign to the front of your snowman, then drape the mittens over each side and hot glue them in place. Flip the snowman over and glue the felt arms to the back of the pizza pan.
  11. Add the scarf. Cut two strips of plaid fabric. Hot glue them to the back of the snowman with opposite ends pointing forward. Wrap the pieces around to the front to mimic a scarf. Cut off any excess and glue the ends in place. For a finished look, cut little kite tails into the scarf ends by folding the fabric and trimming at an angle.
