Supplies to recreate berry-themed bulletin board

I grabbed all these supplies at Hobby Lobby.

  • Heart-shaped paper-mache box
  • red paint
  • red paper
  • pink paper
  • light pink paper
  • green paper
  • white poster paper
  • Red stickers

I grabbed a pack of shades of pink paper that worked great for the gingham.

Berry themed bulletin board

Each one of my bulletin boards are pretty easy but has a few things that require some DIY.

Prep

I like to prep as much as I can so when I get to the school- I can easily put it up!

Step 1: Strawberries

These heart-shaped boxes were exactly what I was looking for. If you use both lids and boxes, one set will give you 6 strawberries. I like the 3-D aspect of it. But you could just cut out strawberry shapes out of red paper.

I spray-painted the boxes red.

Once they dried, I went over and add little pink “seeds”. (Basically upside-down raindrop shapes.)

I cut out a strawberry stem shape from green paper and hot glued it to the top of each box.

You can also grab round boxes and do some cherries!

Step 2: Background.

I wanted the background to be gingham. I was going to put up fabric but the gingham was all so small so instead I grabbed sheets of red and pink paper packs and laid them out to see if I could acheive the look I was going for!

and it worked! I ended up trimming the papers so they were 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 squares.

Step 3: Border

Hobby Lobby had lots of cute borders but I wanted something with a little more razzle dazzle, To finish off the bulletin board, create a scalloped border. Trace around a bowl and cut out the circles.

Then cut each circle in half.

I taped them all together in strips so it was easy to staple them onto the bulletin board.

Step 4: Words

With the gingham as the background, the red stickers I bought were probably going to be hard to read. I ended up putting them on a white poster board and cut them out so they would be easily legible.

I also added some berry seeds to the BERRY word.

Assemble the Berry Best Bulletin Board

I started by placing the white background on the board. Next step was to add the green scalloped border. Since it’s paper, you can just staple it on the edge. If you have room you can also tape it around the edge of the bulletin board instead of the actual board.

Adding on the gingham papers required a little thought process. I ended up starting in the middle and working my way out, so it was equal on both sides.

Then I stapled up the words.

My trick is to add just one staple in everything until I have it all laid out how I like it, then I go through and secure it with extra staples.

My original plan was to staple up the strawberry boxes. I added a zip tie to have something for it to attach to. But they were too heavy for the staples. Instead, I added a line of hot glue around the lip of the box and held it into place until the hot glue cooled.

Alternative: I also thought it would be cute to do KINDNESS IS OUR JAM and add in a jar cut out of poster paper to the board. You also could say something about having a BERRY GOOD YEAR.

Here is the finished product! It’s so fun and I love that you can leave it up all school year long!
