What is different between the Maker 3 and Maker 4

If you just want the list of what is the difference between the Maker 3 and Maker 4, let me sum it up for you. The Cricut Maker 4 and Cricut Explore 4 supposed to be twice as fast, and they come in new colors. That’s it. For me that is not enough to justify getting a new machine.

I would say that if you are on the market for a new machine, there are a LOT of places that have the original Maker and the Cricut Maker 3 on sale, which always happens when Cricut comes out with a new machine. I know I have said I would never buy the Cricut Maker 3 but if you need a new machine and you cannot find the original Maker or Explore then you are kind of stuck with the 3, but at least now the prices have come down!

Speaking of prices, the new Cricut Explore 4 and Cricut Maker 4 are not really a bad price. Usually the new machines come out being over $400. Now, these prices are JUST for the machines with a few starter tools and materials, and of course Cricut is going to try to sell you on getting a bundle with tons of different materials.

Here are my thoughts on various bundles with lots of materials . . . don’t get them! Why? Because Cricut brand vinyl is probably the worst vinyl on the market! I wrote an entire article talking about the different types of vinyl and I even did a price comparison to show you how much you can save just by not buying Cricut vinyl.

Now, if you want to know all of the details I have found keep reading.

Cricut Maker 4 and Cricut Explore 3 at Michael’s

I first heard about the Cricut Explore 4 and Cricut Maker 4 machines on February 26th, 2025. Information is very limited at this time, but you can bet that I will keep you updated as I learn new information, just like I did in 2023 when Cricut launched the Cricut Venture machine.

On the morning of February 26th, 2025 Michael’s sent out an email that said something new was coming from Cricut. The only information in the email was the image you see below. If you clicked on the image (in the email, not my copy of the image that you see below) all it does is download a calendar reminder for you. No other information about the Cricut Maker 4 and Cricut Explore 3.

So I started to do some research. I found a few people talking about it and a few of the posts had this same image attached to it.

I know that when the Cricut Venture came out a lot of people were speculating that the Venture was going to be a laser machine because of the patents that were filed back at that time. As we all know, the Venture was not a laser machine. I found a second patent site that has diagrams of the item the patent is for. With some of the diagrams I can tell what the final product was, but since there is not a name like Cricut Maker 4 attached to the patent it is hard to know what patents might be tied to these machines specifically.

So could this machine be the laser machine people thought was coming out in 2023. My guess is no, since I own two laser machines I can say that from these photos I am going to guess that these new machines are also NOT laser machines.

More To Come – Cricut Maker 4 and Cricut Explore 3

These machines both work with Cricut Design Space, so my Online Cricut Course will still teach you what you need to know in order to create things with these machines.

In my first few minutes of research I already found some more images that include more details about the machine. So far the only difference I can see between the Cricut Maker 4 and the Cricut Maker 3 is that the 4 is supposed to be faster.

I did find an image in on the patent site that looks like there is something sitting under the Cricut machine that extends both to the front and the back. My guess would be that this is some sort of support for longer cuts, and not something directly related to these machines.
