Materials

  • 1 pizza pan (Dollar Tree)
  • White linen Rust-Oleum chalk paint
  • FolkArt Matte Acrylic Paint in “Christmas Red”
  • Printable peppermint spiral template (optional but helpful!)
  • Carbon transfer paper or pencil for tracing
  • Wired ribbon (about 2 inches wide)
  • Floral wire
  • Outdoor Mod Podge or your preferred sealant
  • Wooden dowel (about 3 feet long)
  • Paint stir stick
  • E6000 glue
  • Hot glue sticks
  • 2 zip ties

Tools

  • Fine-point paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Lighter (for heat-sealing ribbon ends)
  • Parchment paper (for mess-free painting)
  • Miter shears or saw (to cut paint stir stick)

Instructions

  1. Watch video. Follow the tutorial for a step by step walkthrough for making your own pizza pan peppermint craft.
  2. Paint the Pizza Pan. Flip your pizza pan over and paint the back (now the front) with white chalk paint. If your chalk paint is a little thick, thin it out with a quick spray of water to get a smooth coat. Let it dry completely. paint the pizza pan whitepaint the pizza pan white
  3. Add the Peppermint Design. You can freehand your swirl, but for perfectly spaced lines, use the printable template. Print it across 4 sheets, tape them together, and center it on the pan. To transfer the design, either (a) Place carbon paper between the template and pan, or (b) Scribble with pencil on the back of the paper and trace the lines from the front. trace peppermint designtrace peppermint design
  4. Paint the Red Swirls. Use a fine-point paintbrush and fill in the peppermint swirls with red paint. Paint just over the traced lines so they don’t show through. Two coats will give you solid, even coverage.
  5. Seal the Surface. To protect your design, especially if it’ll be outside, seal it with Outdoor Mod Podge. It’s a bit glossier than regular matte Mod Podge, but it offers extra protection for porch or planter decor. seal with Mod Podgeseal with Mod Podge
  6. Prep the Yard Stake. Cut your dowel to size (about 3 feet) and paint it with the same Christmas Red. Let it dry on parchment paper so you can paint all sides at once. paint wooden dowelpaint wooden dowel
  7. Secure the Yard Stake. Grab a paint stir stick and trim off the handle so it fits behind the pizza pan. This elevates the dowel slightly so it adheres better. Use E6000 (with hot glue in between for an instant hold) to attach the dowel to the stir stick. Secure with two zip ties while it sets. Once the dowel is stuck to the stir stick, attach the stir stick to the back of the pan using more E6000 and hot glue. Press and hold to ensure it bonds. secure dowel and paint stick to back of pizza pansecure dowel and paint stick to back of pizza pan
  8. Embellish with a Bow. Cut your wired ribbon and form two “figure eights” with tails. Pinch the center of each and stack them together. Wrap with floral wire tightly and snip the ends. To cover the wire, tie a small piece of ribbon around the center and knot it in the back. Use a lighter to heat-seal the ends of your ribbon to prevent fraying. make a figure 8 bowmake a figure 8 bow Attach the bow to the bottom center of your peppermint circle with hot glue.
