You’ve got a friend in Felt – Felt

Everyone needs a best friend who’s got their back. One of the great things about being part of the Felt community is the opportunity to find your people! Here’s how to engage with a wider audience and generate more interest in local makers by connecting with Felt and other Felt sellers on social media.

Social media is one of the most accessible ways to build an audience and customer base for your work. It can be set up on a budget, reach an almost unlimited audience, and it requires minimal specialist tools or skills to get started.
But while a social media presence is generally considered an essential marketing tool for most businesses, it can take up a LOT of time and creative energy for often very little return, and feel like you’re chasing your tail – which is especially hard for micro businesses and soloists.
The chances are that you’re already making an investment of time and energy on social media, so in this article, we’re looking at the ways you can connect with Felt to help that effort go further.
So, let’s take a walk together through Felt’s presence on social media and how you can make the most of it!

The Felt Facebook page
The Felt page on Facebook features several posts weekly to promote products and sellers on Felt. You can help Felt sellers as a collective reach a wider audience by following the page and engaging with Felt content with likes, comments, and shares. Follow the Felt page »
Felt Sellers
Felt Sellers is a private Facebook group just for – you guessed it – Felt sellers. It’s not visible to the public, and you must have an active Felt shop to join. The purposes of this group are peer support and socialising. It’s designed to be a safe and friendly space for sellers to connect and converse with each other.
As well as the main ‘wall’ for posting and commenting on posts, you can join conversations in the group chats using Messenger.
You can post your Felt listings for feedback or advice, but this is not the place to promote them. For promotional purposes, post them instead to Good Kiwi Craftsmanship | Felt to reach a general audience – that is, prospective buyers!
The Felt team are members of the group, and Felt announcements and updates are posted to the group, but if you need help from Felt specifically, the official channel for Felt Support is felt.co.nz/contact. If you have a Felt question, a support request, or a suggestion, you are welcome to discuss it in the group with other sellers, but to guarantee a response from Felt, use the official form.
Felt Sellers is a great place to chat, ask and answer questions to help each other out, and share ideas. And what happens in the group stays in group – we expect everyone to respect the privacy and confidentiality of this space.

Felt’s Instagram account, @iheartfelt, is all about promoting Felt sellers. We want you to be seen, so if we see your content on Instagram, and it’s Felt-friendly – that is, there’s a clear connection to your Felt shop – there’s a good chance we’ll share it.
Here are our best tips for optimising your social content to get a signal boost from Felt:
Use @iheartfelt, not just hashtags
#feltnz is our hashtag, but as hashtags on Instagram no longer work chronologically, it’s not a reliable way for us to spot your post, reel, or story. Tag Felt by using @iheartfelt in your description/caption as well to get our attention.
Include your Felt shop address in your bio
We love sharing content that has a clear pathway to your Felt shop – it’s win win! If your Felt shop address isn’t in your bio, adding the link to your stories as a sticker also works.

Add a mention to your stories
You can use a sticker or caption on your story to tag @iheartfelt, which means we can add your story to ours. There’s also a handy trick if you forget – you can add a mention to stories after they’re published. It doesn’t show up on the story itself, but it means Felt gets a notification – which gives you a chance of a signal boost!
Make sure your shop is stocked
Even if we love your content, we’ll only share it when your Felt shop is active and stocked with relevant listings – we want to create a clear path to purchase on Felt!

Use Felt stickers
You can find Felt stickers for your stories by searching #feltnz. Scatter these about like confetti – they’re great for showing your connection with Felt, which is good for us and for you!
What type of content to tag Felt in
- Product promotion – for items you currently have listed on Felt
- General Felt shop promotion
- Behind the scenes – designing, making, packing, all the verbs behind the scenes of your Felt shop
- Meet the maker style content
- Your news and achievements – we love sharing these in the Ka pai to mahi section of Felt Tips emails and the Felt Sellers Facebook group
